Football has the power to transform lives, build communities, and drive social change. At bonito.football — the editorial platform of Bonito Foundation — we document these stories. And we need voices like yours to help us tell them. We are writers, fans, and activists documenting a movement we believe in. If you want to be part of it, you're in the right place.
Why your voice matters
The Football For Good movement is growing fast, and most of its stories are going untold.
By contributing to Bonito, you will amplify the voices of organizations and communities using football as a tool for social change. You will shape how the world understands football's social impact. You will join a small, mission-driven team that cares about the intersection of sport and justice. You will build a portfolio on a platform dedicated entirely to Football For Good. And you will be part of documenting one of the most exciting movements in modern sport from the early days.
Three ways to get involved
We have two volunteer roles and a third option for people who want to contribute without an ongoing commitment. Read through and decide what fits — and don't worry if you're not sure yet.
Editor
A bigger commitment. Editors write regularly and also help package and publish pieces from Contributors. You will have full access to our CMS, the editorial Google Drive, and our analytics.
This is the right role if you want to be involved in shaping the platform — not just contributing to it.
Contributor
You write your own pieces, on your own schedule. A Contributor commits to at least one piece bi-monthly or per quarter. You submit your work to us, and an Editor helps you package and publish everything in our CMS. You do not need any technical knowledge or a CMS account unless you want one.
This is the right role if you want to contribute your writing and expertise without taking on platform responsibilities.
One-off writer
Can't commit regularly right now, but have a piece in mind? We still want to hear from you. One-off writers are not part of the regular team — there is no onboarding, no meeting required. Just send your idea or draft to team@bonito.football, and we will take it from there.
What we write about
We cover the full breadth of the Football For Good movement — organizations and clubs using football to address social challenges, player activism, innovation in sport for development, research and evidence, community stories, policy and advocacy, and global perspectives from every continent.
Topics we regularly cover include gender equality and empowerment, peacebuilding, refugee protection and integration, disability inclusion, youth leadership, mental well-being, human rights, economic development, child safeguarding, anti-racism, climate justice, and more.
If you have a story in mind that fits this world, we want to read it.
What we offer
The honest truth: this is volunteering, not a job. We cannot offer payment.
What we can offer: a byline and a portfolio piece on a platform entirely dedicated to Football For Good; editorial support from an experienced team; access to a growing network of practitioners, organizations, and advocates in the movement; and the chance to be part of building something from the beginning.
Most importantly, your stories will reach the people who are doing this work.
Ready? Let’s talk
If you want to be a Contributor or Editor, fill in our short intake form. It takes about 5 minutes and asks who you are, what you want to write about, and how you'd like to be involved.
If you want to submit a one-off piece, email per@bonito.football directly.
Common questions
Where do I need to be based? Anywhere. Our volunteer team works remotely from all over the world.
What if I have never written about football before? We care more about your knowledge of the subject than your football fandom. If you understand the Football For Good movement — through work, research, lived experience, or deep interest — that is what matters.
I am not sure I have enough time right now. If a regular commitment is not possible right now, the one-off option is there for exactly that reason. Send us a piece when you have one, no strings attached.
What if I need to step away? Life happens. Just let us know. There is no penalty for pausing or stepping back — we would rather hear from you than lose you quietly.
Who owns the content? You do. We publish it under a Creative Commons license.
Can I pitch an idea before committing? Yes — fill in the intake form and mention your idea in the topics or motivation field. Or email us directly.
Be part of something real
The Football For Good movement needs more voices. We are building a platform — and we are inviting you to help build it with us.
